The GSPIA Professional Development Fund (PDF) recognizes outstanding students and acknowledges substantial professional development activities by defraying related travel costs and other expenses. You can receive up to $2,000, depending on the type of activity.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • In making its allocations, the PDF committee considers the quality of your academic record and performance, the merit of the activity, and financial need.

  • Approved internships: Your paperwork must be completed and approved by Career Services before the PDF application deadline.

    Conferences: You may apply for funding if you are presenting at a conference. General conference attendance is not an eligible activity.

    Other eligible funding requests include study trips, approved study-abroad activities, and other activities as appropriate.

  • You can request funding support for travel expenses, transportation, lodging, registration fees, and other items as appropriate.

  • Application opens about three weeks before each round’s deadline. The dean’s office sends an email announcement at the start of the application period for each round. Typical deadlines are mid-October for the fall round, mid-March for the spring round, and mid-May for the summer round.

    During the application period, you can apply online by logging into GSPIA Connections and choosing the “Apply for Professional Development Funds” link on the home page. Depending on the purpose of your application, you may be required to submit hard copies of additional documents.

  • You’re not eligible for funding if you will graduate before the activity in question takes place. If you’re a graduating student, you may apply retroactively for an activity that has already occurred.

  • Yes. If you’re a PhD student, you may apply for internship support in all funding rounds.
